Sunday Photo Fiction Challenge – Nursery Crhymes (Part 1)

The Assignment: The idea of Photo Fiction is write a story of around 100-200 words (which is also called Flash Fiction) based on a photo as a prompt. In this particular photo fiction, the story must be based on the photo below.  You can submit you story as well as ready others at the link above.

This week I begin a multiple part story and I had to go a little over the 200 words to lay the foundation.  Please enjoy Nursery Crhymes.

Nursery Crhymes (Part 1)

Chief Connelly looked at the men in suits sitting across the table. The last thing he wanted to do was call in the G-Boys but he needed their help.

“I’m glad you called us Chief. I guess the photograph of you and your lieutenants above the fold in today’s Times didn’t make you happy,” said Agent Bennett. With a smirk, he turned to his colleague and said, “What was the caption again Mike?”

“Three Blind Mice, John.”

“Sensationalism sells papers. They’ve begun calling him the Nursery Crhymes Killer. Two women have been found murdered with evidence pointing to the killer being the same person who sent an audio file of a nursery rhyme to the Times.”

Chief Connelly continued with an overview of the murders.

“First in May, a shallow grave was found in the gardens of the city park. There were three bodies which turned out to be two from a nearby cemetery and the body of Mary Carter. Two days prior, the Times received an audio file of “Mary Mary Quite Contrary.”

“Last month, the Times received an audio file of “Sing a song of sixpence” and two days later, the body of a hotel maid, Carrie Lark was found in the hotel laundry. She had been strangled but there was a stuffed blackbird attached as if pecking off her nose.”

“I understand another file was received this morning.”

Placing a digital audio recorder on the table between them, the Chief pressed the button. A chorus of children’s voices sounded.

London Bridge is falling down,

Falling down, falling down,

London Bridge is falling down,

My fair Lady.
