What Happened on May 6th – John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath and the Pulitzer Prize

On May 6, 1940, John Steinbeck is awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his novel, the Grapes of Wrath.  The Grapes of Wrath is about a fictional family from Oklahoma who lose their family farm.  They move to California in search of a better life.  They face many difficulties as they spiral down into poverty.  I think of it as the quintessential novel of the Great Depression.  The Novel also won the National Book Award.  It was also an award winning film starring Henry Fonda.
